Stephenson Harwood announced the arrival of Romain Dethomas as Of Counsel to further develop the firm’s international arbitration practice within its litigation and arbitration team, led by Nicolas Demigneux.
Against a backdrop of heightened geopolitical tensions, disrupted supply chains, and the resulting increase in economic and strategic disputes between private and public actors, strengthening its international arbitration practice is a strategic priority for Stephenson Harwood. The firm benefits from a leading international platform in international trade law and complex dispute resolution, and aims to consolidate its position in both commercial and investment arbitration worldwide.
The arrival of Romain Dethomas is directly aligned with this global ambition and follows the recent hires of Stuart Dutson (formerly Global Head of International Arbitration at Simmons & Simmons) in London and José Almoguera’s team in Madrid.
Romain Dethomas acts as counsel in commercial arbitrations—both institutional (ICC, LCIA, DIAC, SIAC, etc.) and ad hoc—as well as investment arbitrations, particularly in the energy, construction, telecommunications, aviation, and automotive sectors. He has also developed a recognised practice before the French courts in annulment and enforcement proceedings relating to arbitral awards.
Working alongside Nicolas Demigneux and the firm’s litigation and arbitration team, Romain will play a central role in developing the firm’s international arbitration offering and will join the firm’s International Arbitration Group as an executive member.
