Lacerda Diniz Machado Strengthens Tax Practice Under The Leadership Of Romulo Martins

Lacerda Diniz Machado announces the restructuring of its tax practice, now led by partner Rômulo Martins. The move reflects the firm’s strategic decision to strengthen the practice through an integrated approach combining Tax, Corporate law and M&A operations, aligned with changes in the business environment and the ongoing implementation of Brazil’s tax reform.

The appointment of an internal candidate signals the firm’s commitment to developing and promoting talent from within, recognising career paths that combine technical consistency, market awareness and alignment with the firm’s overall strategic positioning.

Rômulo Martins is a partner at Lacerda Diniz Machado and focuses on Tax law, advising domestic and multinational companies on tax planning, structuring transactions with significant tax implications, and reorganisations involving income, operations and assets, including cross-border matters.

His practice combines strong technical tax expertise with experience in Corporate law and M&A, enabling him to design solutions that integrate tax efficiency, cash flow and governance, effectively linking legal advice to clients’ broader business strategy.

With the implementation of Brazil’s tax reform, the firm has been focusing on reviewing operating models and corporate structures, supporting companies in adapting to the new consumption-based taxation environment and its impact on pricing, margins and overall business organisation.

In this context, integration between practice areas has become increasingly central. According to Rômulo Martins, tax has evolved from an isolated analysis into a strategic component of business decision-making. “Our approach is to act in an integrated manner, connecting corporate structure, strategy and tax efficiency in a context of transformation,” he says.

Rômulo began his career as a Senior Tax Consultant at Deloitte, where he worked for four years on projects in Brazil and abroad. He then served as a Senior Associate at Fialho Salles, later incorporated into Madrona, for six years, and, prior to joining Lacerda Diniz Machado, he was a Coordinating Partner at Silva Freire for four years. He holds a master’s degree in business law from Milton Campos, an LLM from FGV and an MBA from Fundação Dom Cabral and has been recognised by directories such as ITR World Tax, Chambers and Partners, The Legal 500, IFLR1000 and Leaders League.

For Lacerda Diniz Machado, the new structure responds to growing market demand for more comprehensive and integrated solutions that simultaneously address tax, corporate and strategic aspects. According to Rafael Lacerda, CEO and founding partner of the firm, the decision to appoint an internal leader reflects a long-term vision. “Rômulo’s appointment reflects a conscious decision to value professionals who have developed within the firm and are now prepared to take on strategic roles,” he states.

With this new leadership, Lacerda Diniz Machado reinforces its capabilities in complex matters and expands its ability to advise clients on decisions requiring an integrated perspective across corporate structure, tax efficiency and business strategy.
