Barnes & Thornburg announced the arrival of Kathryn Cobb in its Chicago office as a partner in the firm’s Associations and Nonprofits practice. The move further expands the Chicago office following the addition last month of corporate partner Elizabeth Davis.
Cobb brings extensive experience in advising trade and professional associations as well as public charities on a wide range of legal and operational matters. She regularly serves as outside general counsel to her clients, supporting leadership teams across issues including corporate governance, compliance, employment, fundraising, intellectual property and risk management.
“Kat brings a rare combination of legal depth and firsthand leadership experience that aligns with how our clients operate,” said Corporate Department Chair Jahan Sharifi. “Her ability to guide organizations through both day-to-day decisions and high-stakes challenges strengthens our platform and enhances the value we deliver to our clients.”
Before joining Barnes & Thornburg, Cobb practiced at an Am Law 200 firm and served as chief legal officer for an international sorority. In that role, she advised on complex legal, governance and operational issues, gaining direct insight into the pressures facing nonprofit leadership. Her experience informs her approach to counseling clients on matters ranging from board development and crisis response to data security, investigations and tax considerations.

Cobb earned her law degree from Arizona State University and her bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science from the University of Denver.
