Thielmann Advogados Opens New Faria Lima Office, Strengthening Its Position as a Comprehensive Financial and Capital Markets Boutique

Thielmann Advogados has opened a new office on Faria Lima Avenue in São Paulo, marking a new stage in the firm’s growth. Located in one of Brazil’s leading financial and business districts, the firm has moved into a larger, entirely new space designed to support the expansion of its practice and further strengthen its close relationships with clients and business partners.

Located at Condomínio Edifício Faria Lima 1188, the new office was designed to combine functionality, sophistication and the firm’s institutional identity. In addition to increased capacity, the premises feature five meeting rooms and two meeting booths for private meetings and videoconferences, as well as collaborative areas designed to foster interaction among teams, clients and partners.

More than a physical expansion, the new office reflects Thielmann Advogados’ positioning in the market: a specialized firm with broad capabilities across its core areas of expertise, combining technical knowledge, transactional experience, the ability to handle complex transactions and disputes, and close client relationships.

“The new office represents a natural evolution for the firm. We felt it was the right time to create a space that reflected both where we are today and, above all, what we want to build in the years ahead. The architecture, the artwork and the spaces themselves were conceived to reflect our identity: a sophisticated and contemporary practice that remains deeply connected to tradition, market experience, legal culture and the development of long-term relationships,” says Gabriel de Carvalho Thielmann, partner at Thielmann Advogados.

Architecture, art and identity

The architectural design combines a contemporary, understated and sophisticated aesthetic with elements of art and history. The concept was to create an environment that engages with the modern financial market while preserving references to tradition and culture.

One of the most prominent pieces in the reception area is Meteoro, by Bruno Giorgi, which serves as a central element of the office’s visual identity. The choice of the artwork also reflects an important aspect of the firm’s positioning: its international outlook and commitment to building business relationships grounded in dialogue, trust and the pursuit of the most amicable and efficient solutions possible.

Thielmann Advogados is a signatory to the ICPR – International Centre for Dispute Resolution commitment, reinforcing the firm’s institutional focus on dispute prevention and the use of consensual and efficient mechanisms to resolve business conflicts.

Art is also featured throughout the meeting rooms. The firm commissioned artist Hugo Machado to create works depicting landmarks in German cities after which the rooms are named. The reference to Germany is deliberate, representing the international dimension of the firm’s practice and professional background while giving each space its own distinct identity.

The office also houses a collection of historical banknotes and documents representing securities, with pieces that illustrate the evolution of the capital markets. Among them are a 1986 Volkswagen preferred share certificate, a 1958 Banco do Brasil common share certificate and other historical securities, some dating back to the 19th century.

“Our intention was to create an environment with a sense of history. We work every day with contracts, securities, financial structures and business relationships that are often highly sophisticated, but which are also part of a tradition that has been developing for decades, and in some cases centuries. Having these documents in the office is a reminder that the financial and capital markets have a history of their own, and that our work is part of that history,” Thielmann explains.

Focused expertise, broad capabilities

Thielmann Advogados’ core practices remain traditional M&A, capital markets and investment funds, alongside particularly strong capabilities in banking regulation, litigation involving the recovery of claims arising from financial transactions, and arbitration related to financial and corporate transactions.

The firm does not position itself as a full-service law firm. Instead, it operates as a specialized boutique with broad capabilities across selected areas of high complexity and, whenever necessary, works alongside other firms whose expertise complements its own.

This model enables Thielmann Advogados to assemble legal teams and structures tailored to the specific requirements of each transaction or dispute, combining its core expertise with that of Brazilian and international partner firms in complementary practice areas.

“We do not believe that a law firm necessarily needs to do everything in-house to provide a comprehensive solution. Our goal is to offer genuine depth in the areas in which we practice and, whenever a matter requires additional capabilities, to assemble the best possible team for that particular client and situation. This allows us to provide broad-ranging support without sacrificing specialization,” says Thielmann.

Knowledge as an integral part of the practice

The production and dissemination of knowledge are also part of the firm’s tradition. Thielmann Advogados maintains an ongoing program of research, publications and events focused on the areas in which it practices, fostering closer ties with a wide range of market participants.

Among these initiatives is TN Intelligence, the firm’s longstanding series of articles produced by its team on legal and regulatory matters relevant to the financial, capital and corporate markets.

The new office was also conceived as a venue for networking, dialogue and debate. Throughout its history, the firm has hosted events and meetings involving asset managers, securities distributors (DTVMs), banks, financial market infrastructure providers, companies, investors, and Brazilian and international law firms, promoting discussions on regulatory developments, market structures, financial transactions and legal trends.

This commitment to knowledge production also extends to the firm’s relationship with academia. Thielmann Advogados is recognized as a DNA USP entity, an initiative that connects organizations with the University of São Paulo and promotes interaction between academia, research and the market.

A space for building relationships

Beyond its operational role, the new office was designed as a space for building and strengthening relationships. Its proximity to financial institutions, asset managers, investment funds, companies and other market participants, combined with the area’s infrastructure, was one of the key factors behind the firm’s decision to maintain its presence on Faria Lima Avenue.

The office is located near Faria Lima metro station in a building offering parking facilities, a dedicated passenger drop-off and pick-up area, and 24-hour security.

“Faria Lima has long been part of our history and continues to make sense given the dynamics of our clients and professionals, offering accessibility, flexibility and an infrastructure that is consistent with the way we work and the standard of service we aim to provide. The new office allows us to be even closer to our clients while creating an environment where we can welcome people, hold meetings, host events and discuss the issues transforming the market. We want the firm to be not only a place to work, but also a space for building relationships and producing knowledge,” Thielmann concludes.
