European law firm Fieldfisher has appointed Richard Power as a partner in its London Dispute Resolution practice, effective from 1 June 2026.
Richard joined from Clyde & Co, where he specialised in complex cross-border disputes, with a particular focus on international arbitration and energy disputes. His arrival supports the firm’s continued investment in the energy sector, one of the firm’s four key sector focus areas globally.
He brings more than 25 years’ experience advising clients across the full spectrum of commercial disputes; acting in litigation, arbitration, mediation and other forms of alternative dispute resolution.
Richard has particular expertise in disputes arising in the power, renewables and oil & gas industries, including matters relating to power purchase agreements, grid access, emissions trading schemes, energy transition projects and greenwashing claims. He has represented a wide range of clients, including Scottish Power, Community Windpower, TotalEnergies and Wipro.
Recent matters include acting in a London Court of International Arbitration claim for a Saudi Arabian investment bank concerning a joint venture dispute a Franco-Canadian aerospace and engineering company in a London Court of International Arbitration dispute arising from a contract for airliner cargo conversion kits; and representing a private jet hire company in a series of London Court of International Arbitration proceedings and English Court claims.
He was also instructed by a UK renewable energy producer in a dispute concerning the pricing mechanism in a renewable power purchase agreement, and challenged decisions of the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero and the National Energy System Operator on behalf of oil & gas and renewable power companies in matters involving the UK Emissions Trading Scheme Regulations and grid access rules.
Richard joins Fieldfisher’s dispute resolution practice in the UK, co-led by partners John McElroy and Daniel Hayward, which incorporates the firm’s international arbitration group which comprises more than 30 partners across Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, and the UK.
Fieldfisher’s international arbitration team has been instructed on a number of significant matters in recent years, including securing a favourable award for a state-owned gas distributor in a London Court of International Arbitration matter concerning pricing under a long-term gas supply agreement worth billions of dollars; defending South Sudan in a US$2.7 billion International Chamber of Commerce arbitration; and representing KazRosGas in the settlement of a billion-dollar gas supply dispute.
The hire forms part of the firm’s continued growth of its disputes offering across Europe. Fieldfisher’s Dispute Resolution practice comprises more than 60 partners in the UK and over 450 contentious lawyers internationally.
Richard’s appointment further bolsters the firm’s European Energy sector group, co-headed by partners Feilim O’Caoimh and Daniel Marhewka, which advises global clients across the oil & gas, mining & metals, power and renewables industries on complex regulatory, transactional and contentious matters arising from the transformation of the global energy market.
