Alceon’s Investment in Specialist Medical Services

Johnson Winter & Slattery has advised Alceon Private Equity on its investment in Specialist Medical Services (SMS), assisted by Gilbert + Tobin. Allens advised NAB.

Alceon’s PE arm, run by co-heads Zac Midalia and David Wilshire, has struck a deal to acquire Specialist Medical Services, as the first step of a bigger push into the world of day surgery and Australia’s healthcare sector.

With this deal, the firm will make a move into ophthalmology and short stay medical services by investing in SMS, which is a roll-up of ophthalmology clinics and short stay hospitals in Australia. The business was founded by Carl Adams, who previously led the creation of radiology business QScan for Quadrant Private Equity.

Established in 2016, Specialist Medical Services is an ophthalmology clinics and short stay hospitals.
