César Alierta’s Sale of Stake in Real Zaragoza

Cuatrecasas advised César Alierta on the deal.

The former president of Telefónica, César Alierta—until now the main shareholder of Real Zaragoza, S.A.D.—announced the sale of a 51% stake in the football club to a powerful investment group specialized in sports management.

With this agreement, Real Zaragoza has achieved the involvement of a group of solvent investors made up of experts in the field, who seek to boost the club financially so that it can once again compete at the highest tier of Spanish football. However, the transaction was subject to two preconditions: mathematical permanence in the second division and authorization from the Spanish Sports Council for the share acquisition.

The Cuatrecasas team was led by Antonio García Lapuente (Picture), Mara Tomás, Rocío Ágreda and Pablo Villanova.
