Carey Olsen announced the appointment of Patrick Ormond, who has joined the firm as a partner in our British Virgin Islands (“BVI”) corporate and finance practice.
Patrick’s practice focuses on complex BVI corporate, finance, restructuring and fintech mandates, including equity capital markets, SPACs, M&A, joint ventures, reorganisations, financing structures, security enforcement, crypto and token issuances and deFi arrangements.
Patrick has played a leading role in some of the most high?profile and sophisticated corporate and finance transactions in recent years, including take-privates, business combinations and IPOs. He has also been at the forefront of the development of the BVI as a jurisdiction for fintech transactions, working with leading institutions and participants in the space.
Patrick trained and practised as a banking and finance lawyer at Macfarlanes in London before moving offshore in 2012. He previously worked in the Carey Olsen BVI office before spending several years as a partner of another offshore law firm, where he became managing partner of that firm’s BVI office from 2018 to 2020. He later relocated to London, where he co?established and led the BVI, Cayman Islands and Bermuda law corporate practice of that firm’s London office.
Alex Hall Taylor, managing partner of the Carey Olsen BVI office, commented: “We are delighted to welcome Patrick back to Carey Olsen, whose return to us and to the BVI reflects his long-standing commitment to the jurisdiction as a leading offshore finance centre. Patrick’s BVI experience, coupled with his time in London, as well as his leadership roles and track record on major global transactions, makes him an exceptional addition to our team and partnership.”
Patrick commented: “I’m excited to be returning to Carey Olsen as a partner and to contribute to the continued growth of its leading BVI practice. The firm’s reputation and platform offer a fantastic opportunity to build on my experience across corporate, finance and fintech matters while continuing to support clients on their most complex cross?border mandates.”
