Cambridge Innovation Capital’s £225 Million Fundraising

Fried Frank acted as counsel to Cambridge Innovation Capital on the deal.

Cambridge Innovation Capital (“CIC”), the venture capital investor focused on building world-leading deep tech and life sciences businesses originating from the University of Cambridge or connected with the broader Cambridge ecosystem, executed the formation and fundraising of its second fund (“Fund II”), raising £225 million (US$300 million).

Fund II was oversubscribed and included investors from a geographically diverse group of around 50 institutional and strategic investors, with almost half of the capital raised having come from UK-based investors. CIC has invested in c. 40 deep tech and life sciences companies to date, with Fund II already having made six investments. With Fund II, CIC now manages in excess of £500 million, giving it the scale to support its portfolio companies throughout their life cycle, providing investment capital as well as strategic and operational support.

The Fried Frank team was led by corporate partners Sam Wilson (Picture) and Kate Downey, and included regulatory partner Gregg Beechey; finance partner Kathryn Cecil; tax partners Michelle B.
