Andrade Maia merges with Mothes Advogados, strengthening its national presence in Tax Law and Agribusiness

Andrade Maia Advogados has announced its merger with Mothes Advogados, a firm founded 20 years ago in Porto Alegre and recognised for its work in tax and corporate law, with a solid track record in agribusiness. The move represents another step in Andrade Maia’s growth strategy, consolidating its position as one of Brazil’s leading full-service law firms and expanding its tax team, which already comprised over 100 professionals and 14,000 active matters.

The strategic merger expands the reach and depth of Andrade Maia’s tax practice by incorporating the recognised expertise of Mothes Advogados in advising agro-industrial cooperatives, companies and producers across Brazil’s South, Southeast and Central-West regions. The incorporated firm is also noted for its strong presence before Brazil’s superior courts, including CARF, STJ and STF.

According to Fabio Goldschmidt, founding partner of Andrade Maia, the integration reflects the alignment of histories, values and visions for the future. “The arrival of Mothes Advogados strengthens our footprint in agribusiness — a key sector for Brazil’s economy and for our firm. The synergy between the teams is clear — we bring together technical excellence, tax intelligence and trusted relationships with key market players,” he says.

The merger also reinforces Andrade Maia’s longstanding commitment to the agribusiness sector through initiatives such as the AM Agro Forum, which promotes events, publications and debates on strategic legal issues for the field. With the addition of the new team, the firm is now even better positioned to serve clients in segments such as grain trading, oil and meal production, biofuels, food and beverage industries, wineries, fertilisers, agricultural machinery and equipment, as well as producers and cooperatives.

Founded by Paulo Mothes — a former CARF councillor and current member of the Superior Council for Legal Affairs at FIESP — Mothes Advogados has built a solid reputation in tax planning, judicial and administrative litigation, tax audits, corporate restructuring and cooperative law. With the integration, the Mothes Advogados team joins Andrade Maia, bringing its expertise to complex cases, specialised tax consultancy projects and strengthened institutional relations in Brasília.

“We will remain rooted in agribusiness, contributing our knowledge to Andrade Maia’s extensive experience and portfolio. Our clients — and Brazil’s agribusiness sector — stand to benefit greatly from this union. We enter this new phase with the same commitment to excellence and dedication that have always guided us,” says Paulo Mothes.

Andrade Maia Advogados is a business law firm focused on tax, civil, corporate and labour law. With nationwide coverage, the firm has more than 400 professionals and over 65 partners, operating from offices in São Paulo, Porto Alegre, Brasília and Salvador.
